Even in a market that seems to have stalled somewhat, canny buyers are still on the lookout for the right investment property. And there is plenty to like in the new homes market, at all price levels.
One industry figure who knows about investment is Grant Bovey, whose company, Imagine Homes, provides opportunities for investors via high-style schemes across the nation. So what does he think 2008 will bring to property investors? ‘I think what’s fascinating about the property market is it’s all about opinion,’ he told me. ‘No one actually knows – it has a life of its own. There is negative press at the moment generally about the housing sector. We’ll have to put up with that for another two months – I think interest rates will come down a quarter of a point. It will be a blip.’
Imagine Homes is currently offering a must-see opportunity in London’s Docklands, called Icon. This has been immensely popular with investment purchasers, says Bovey. ‘It’s a very attractive development, I wish I had ten more.’
Icon offers a choice of designer one and two-bedroom state-of-the-art apartments, just yards from Pan Peninsula. Residents will be able to enjoy fully-serviced amenities including a gymnasium and swimming pool, relaxing sauna and steam rooms all for private use and a public health spa offering complementary and holistic therapies. A hotel-style concierge service will be located in the main lobby with a ground floor meeting room and business support facilities. With a stylish and modern design running throughout, the icon is the ultimate in contemporary living.
For the buyers, Imagine Homes offers a hassle-free investment – and at Icon, like the company’s other projects, the location and the specification are both top-notch. Besides Docklands where else would Bovey say the smart money is in property? ‘In recent years we’ve seen areas that were considered undesirable- Hackney, Bethnal Green – become trendy. Hackney has become very trendy – but when I moved to London 20 years ago it wasn’t, believe me.’ Other good bets, he says are Greenwich – ‘It’s presently undervalued and will continue to rise’ - and Chelsea where, he says, ‘The Barracks will push Chelsea to another level.’
